Mark Hijleh

 

Mark Hijleh holds degrees in composition and conducting from the Peabody Conservatory, the Ithaca College School of Music, and William Jewell College. His composition teachers included such noted artists as Karel Husa, Morris Moshe Cotel, James Mobberley, Barney Childs and Thomas Benjamin. Dr. Hijleh has received composition awards from ASCAP and other major musical organizations. His works have been performed by the Rochester and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestras, at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and Oxford University in England, and in schools and churches across the United States. Dr. Hijleh is the author of "The Music of Jesus: From Composition to Koinonia." Mark Hijleh lives with his wife Kelley and daughter Hannah in Houghton, New York, where he serves as Associate Professor of Composition and Theory at the Houghton College School of Music and conducts the Houghton Philharmonia Orchestra. In 1994, he founded the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers, and in 1998 joined the music theory and composition faculty of the MasterWorks Festival.
