Allen Orton Gibbs (1910-1996) is best-known for her widely played setting of the hymn tune CRANHAM ("In the Bleak Midwinter"). Mrs. Gibbs spent most of her career as an organist in Alabama, where she wrote a number of works for organ, solo songs, hymns, and choral anthems. She completed a number of commissioned works, and her music was published by various publishers, including Augsburg-Fortress, Abingdon, Concordia, and Mark Foster. In 2008, her son Thomas Jordan Gibbs, Jr. and Carson Cooman edited a volume of her complete organ music.
